![]() ![]() I really love the gameplay system of this (in my opinion I like it even more than the system in Sengoku Rance), but I can see why some may dislike it. ![]() I still consider Ontology Wailing to be my favorite non-vocal song in any VN, with Rough Edge being very high up as well. It serves as a perfect way to carry you through scenes, and, until I played YU-NO recently, it was my favorite OST to any VN ever. The music, especially the more emotional songs, is fantastic. Leila's crush on Rick, Elena's desire to escape from her abusive household, Kamilla willing to sacrifice her life for the sake of her Apostle, Reincock, and many more. And this game is filled with things like this. They have probably less than an hour of screentime together, yet have left more of an impact than practically and 10+ hour heroine route. Something that particularly stands out to me is the relationship between Lei and Mary Ann. Regardless of how minor they are, they have goal and fears like anyone else. These make the characters feel even more real. The game itself is filled with so many small characters, each with their events that can lead to a good or bad end for them. ![]() And despite Rance being at his most brutal here, he is also at his most human. Even if he never outright says it, this game puts the upmost emphasis on it. You're not playing as a traditional hero, but rather someone who's only care in the world is his own self interest.īecause at it's heart Kichikuou is about the love that Rance has for his slave, Sill. This is definitely the darkest game in the Rance Series, with Rance being almost like a villain here. Story, characters, setting, gameplay, drama, comedy, art, sound, and just pure raw human emotions that nothing can compare to, at least in my opinion. From start to finish it excels in every possible aspect. ![]()
